Child Protection Officer (Junior Professional Officer) – P-2

About the role

The Child Protection Officer (JPO) will support UNICEF Ghana’s Child Protection Programme by integrating climate‑change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian‑development linkages into national child protection systems. The role focuses on evidence generation, systems strengthening and emergency preparedness to protect vulnerable children.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen evidence and frameworks linking climate change and child protection.
• Support the Child Protection and Climate Change study – data analysis, stakeholder engagement and dissemination.
• Develop a national framework for climate‑resilient child protection systems.
• Provide technical support to embed climate‑related risk markers into the Social Welfare Information Management System (SWIMS).
• Operationalise the Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Contingency Work Plan and mainstream it across sectoral humanitarian plans.
• Coordinate and participate in the National Child Protection in Emergency Working Group and related training.
• Assist in developing a national trafficking data system and prepare emergency programme reports.
• Collaborate with partners to address implementation issues and support programme monitoring.

Required profile

• University degree in social sciences, public health, climate change, humanitarian affairs or related field.
• Experience in child protection, climate‑change adaptation or disaster risk reduction.
• Familiarity with humanitarian coordination mechanisms and emergency response standards.
• Strong analytical and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
