Climate & Nature Officer

About the role

The British High Commission in Ghana is seeking an experienced specialist to lead the UK’s climate and nature agenda under the People and Planet Pillar. You will shape partnerships, influence policy and support Ghana’s low‑carbon development while aligning with UK programmes on forestry, carbon markets and biodiversity.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for UK‑Ghana collaborations on forest protection, nature conservation and climate objectives.
• Coordinate and oversee centrally managed programmes such as REDD+, forest carbon credit initiatives, AIM4Forests, IFSLU2 and FGMC2.
• Ensure technical quality and alignment with the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and its International Forest Unit.
• Build and maintain senior relationships with Ghanaian ministries, the Environmental Protection Agency, Forestry Commission and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Represent the UK in high‑level dialogues, including COP and other international climate forums.

Required profile

• Proven experience in climate, nature or forestry policy and programme delivery.
• Strong diplomatic and stakeholder‑engagement skills with senior government officials.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
