Cyanide Champion – Process Plant Safety & Compliance

About the role

The Cyanide Champion will support the redevelopment project’s steady‑state processing objectives by ensuring safe, compliant and efficient management of cyanide across the Obuasi underground mine’s process plant. This senior position reports to the Departmental Manager and acts as the qualified person under LI 2182 Regulation 219.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct critical control reviews, workplace inspections and hazard observations.
• Assess and control risks for all tasks, report incidents and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Achieve 100 % compliance with OHS KPIs, targeting zero incidents and injuries.
• Lead the team’s environmental obligations, hold formal meetings, identify procedural weaknesses and attend environmental training.
• Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports and recommend actions to the Environmental Manager.
• Maintain and improve safety performance, promote HSE actions, and ensure appropriate PPE for cyanide handling.
• Assist in training process‑plant employees on LI 2182 Regulation 219 and relevant codes.

Required profile

• Experienced mining professional with a strong background in cyanide management.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and lead a team.
• Qualified person under LI 2182 Regulation 219 and familiar with the ICMI Cyanide Code.
• Excellent risk‑assessment and incident‑investigation skills.
