Database Administrator (Oracle & MS SQL)

About the role

The Database Administrator will manage Telecel Ghana's Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and other database platforms. The role ensures testing, deployment and Level 1‑3 technical support for all database components, keeping the database estate aligned with business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and decision‑making for database environments, including servers, data‑centre configurations and DB settings.
• Consult on requirements definition, design, development and integration of complex database projects.
• Develop business case justifications and cost‑benefit analyses for IT database initiatives.
• Manage deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades and support of all database systems.
• Investigate and resolve escalated database issues, ensuring adequate resources are allocated.
• Review tests, integrations and solutions produced by less experienced staff for accuracy.
• Communicate and enforce standards for distributed database environments.
• Oversee periodic maintenance and upgrades of database platforms.
• Collaborate with key vendors to align technical road‑maps with long‑range planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of database administration experience, with at least 2 years in a technical management capacity.
• 2‑3 years experience supporting MS SQL Server and Oracle databases.
• 2‑3 years experience with database clustering and SMART (Self‑Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology).
• Strong overview of IT systems and technologies.
