Database Administrator (Oracle, MS SQL)

About the role

Telecel Ghana is looking for a Database Administrator to manage its Oracle, MS SQL and database platforms. The role provides technical expertise and decision-making for database system environments, supports testing and deployment of new components, and delivers Level 1 to 3 technical support across the database estate. It is based in Accra.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and decisions on server, local service, data centre and database configuration issues, meeting the IT DBA needs of the business day to day.
• Advise on requirements definition, specification, design, development and integration of systems and databases, and ensure IT database delivery meets project specifications.
• Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT database spending.
• Manage deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT database systems.
• Investigate and resolve escalated issues and allocate the right technical and personnel resources.
• Review tests, integrations, maintenance and solutions by less experienced staff on larger projects.
• Communicate, maintain and establish standards for distributed database environments.
• Oversee periodic maintenance and upgrades of database environments.
• Work with key vendors on their technical roadmaps and factor them into long-range planning, together with the Head of Infrastructure, Head of Architecture & Strategy and the CIO.
• Assist with backup and restore of system databases.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of database administration, 2 of which in a technical management capacity.
• Good overview of IT systems and technologies.

Required skills

• 2 to 3 years of experience with MS SQL and Oracle support.
• 2 to 3 years of experience with database clustering.
• 2 to 3 years of experience with self-monitoring, analysis and reporting technology (SMART).
