Director of Finance

About the role

The Director of Finance will lead the university’s finance directorate, providing strategic financial advice to the President and senior management. Reporting directly to the President, this senior officer ensures the financial health and regulatory compliance of the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Inform, update and advise the President on financial matters on a regular basis.
• Prepare statements, accounts and estimates for the Academic Board and Council.
• Collect receivables, authorise payments and manage cash flow.
• Develop, present and monitor the annual university budget.
• Maintain books and records in accordance with Council and Auditor‑General requirements.
• Report any deficiencies in financial record‑keeping to the Finance Committee.
• Prepare consolidated accounts for all university units.
• Facilitate internal and external audits.
• Identify and source funding opportunities for the university.
• Ensure compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
• Undertake any additional assignments delegated by the Council or President.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Member of a recognised professional accounting body (e.g., ICA Ghana, ACCA, CIMA).
• Minimum ten years of post‑qualification professional experience.
• At least four years in a senior finance role within a university or comparable institution, or fifteen years in reputable private or public sector organisations.
• Demonstrated integrity, leadership, communication and ICT competence.
