Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling

About the role

The Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling will lead the design, operation and maintenance of the material handling and pastefill plants at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to senior mine management, you will ensure plant availability, safety and cost‑effectiveness while supporting the mine’s transition to a fully mechanised operation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Safety Management plan for material handling and pastefill areas.
• Provide technical input to the Underground Maintenance Manager and collaborate with Safety, Refurbishment, Planning, Technical Services and Construction managers.
• Review and enforce safety standards, aiming for zero reportable incidents and compliance breaches.
• Optimize energy consumption per unit of ore produced.
• Establish and lead the Pastefill and Material Handling engineering team, defining structure and responsibilities.
• Communicate policies and procedures to achieve full compliance.
• Develop and maintain a skills matrix, identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Create succession plans for key positions.
• Advise refurbishment projects on best‑practice engineering and construction solutions.
• Review, approve and sign‑off detailed refurbishment execution plans, testing, commissioning and hand‑over documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in engineering leadership within underground mining or heavy‑industrial environments.
• Self‑motivated, results‑driven and capable of managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of safety management systems and integrated management standards.
• Ability to develop organisational structures, skills matrices and succession plans.
• Excellent communication skills to convey policies and technical guidance.
