Mechanical Technician – Material Handling

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. We are looking for an experienced, self‑motivated Mechanical Technician to maintain and optimise our underground and surface conveyor systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all scheduled maintenance on underground and surface conveyor systems (shift‑3, regular‑3) following total quality management principles.
• Conduct daily pre‑start, shift handover, and equipment/tool checks and complete required check sheets.
• Report anomalies, generate work requests in SAP, and log equipment performance in the asset health system.
• Gather and organise data for the Materials Handling Supervisor to support condition‑monitoring routes and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Escalate safety or high‑risk situations, stop equipment when unsafe, and propose cost‑saving projects.

Required profile

• Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 1).
• Experience maintaining conveyor systems in a mining or industrial environment.
• Ability to work shifts and follow strict health, safety, and environmental procedures.
