Mechanical Technician – Surface Mine Infrastructure

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a modern, fully mechanised operation. We are looking for a self‑motivated Mechanical Technician to maintain and refurbish surface‑mine infrastructure, ensuring safe and compliant operation of critical plant equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance and refurbishment on fridge plants, primary ventilation fans (BVS, CAT 300, SNVS, KMVS, GCVS), generator sets, paste‑fill systems and surface/river pumping stations.
• Execute daily pre‑start checks of tools and equipment, and transport required tools to job sites.
• Interface with contractors and construction teams to coordinate mechanical tasks and adhere to project schedules.
• Provide movement signals to crane operators for safe equipment positioning.
• Identify and report equipment anomalies, escalating maintenance needs as required.
• Enter completion data into SAP to close work orders for plant and equipment maintenance.

Required profile

• Secondary education with a recognized mechanical trade apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds).
• Minimum five (5) years post‑apprenticeship experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial or mining environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely in compliance with Ghanaian government regulations and AngloGold Ashanti safety standards.
• Willingness to attend training and continuous improvement programs.
