Project Officer – Young Urban Women’s Life Choices & Livelihoods

About the role

The Project Officer will support the Young Urban Women’s Life Choices and Livelihoods (YUWLCL) project, delivering capacity‑building, advocacy and research activities for young women in the Greater Accra and Northern regions of Ghana.

Key responsibilities

• Organise training programmes using creative methodologies to raise awareness on life choices and livelihoods.
• Work directly with young women to identify immediate solutions to their challenges.
• Research and map policies, laws and programmes, assessing their relevance to young women at local and national levels.
• Plan and implement advocacy actions targeting decision‑makers on issues affecting young women.
• Mobilise young women into national and international youth networks and movements.
• Identify and engage allies to support advocacy efforts locally and nationally.
• Conduct regular visits to project communities, document changes and submit progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
• Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health rights, child protection and employment issues.
• Understanding of unpaid care work.
• Strong communication skills with young people and ability to facilitate advocacy interventions.
• Ability to generate innovative ideas, pursue agendas to completion and produce concise reports.

• Two‑year fixed‑term contract on national terms.
• Monthly base salary of GHS 1,024 (Band 3: Step 1).
