Quality Control Officer

About the role

HAPPY Program is hiring a full-time Quality Control Officer based in Tema, Ghana, in the retail, fashion and FMCG sector. The role covers quality checks of goods and food-handling areas, monitoring of hygiene and food safety standards, and follow-up on corrective actions.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect incoming goods, storage conditions, product displays and stock handling for quality, quantity, packaging integrity, labelling and expiry dates.
• Carry out routine quality checks in bakery, butchery, restaurant and other food-handling areas, covering hygiene, temperature control, cleaning and safe handling.
• Monitor adherence to standard operating procedures, personal hygiene rules, pest-control measures and workplace sanitation requirements.
• Identify non-conforming, damaged, expired or unsafe products, isolate affected stock, document findings and escalate for corrective action.
• Maintain inspection checklists, temperature logs, incident records, non-conformance reports and other quality documentation.
• Follow up with store, warehouse, production and operations teams so that corrective and preventive actions are completed within agreed timelines.
• Support internal audits, customer complaint investigations, product traceability exercises and staff training on quality and food safety.
• Report recurring quality issues, trends and improvement opportunities to the supervisor.

Required profile

• HND or bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Quality Management, Microbiology or a related field is preferred.
• Experience in quality control within retail, FMCG, food production, hospitality or a similar environment is an advantage.
• Able to work shifts and visit operational areas as required.

Required skills

• Good understanding of hygiene, food safety, stock handling, inspection procedures and record keeping.
• Strong observation, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
