Regional Communications & Knowledge Management Coordinator

About the role

The Communications & Knowledge Management Expert will lead the development and delivery of a communication strategy for IWMI’s Western Africa office and the regional integrated initiative, supporting the Country Representative, Project Leaders and researchers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication and knowledge‑management action plans, including media outreach and social‑media content for research projects.
• Create digital, printed and multimedia materials such as presentations, press releases, infographics, videos and blogs in line with donor requirements and IWMI branding.
• Identify key messages from technical reports, package them for diverse stakeholders, and manage media relations, interviews and field‑visit coverage.
• Maintain media outlet database, compile newsletters, support documentation of meetings and workshops, and liaise with IWMI HQ and CGIAR communication teams.
• Manage communications sub‑contracts and service providers (graphic designers, videographers, photographers, etc.).

Required profile

• Master’s degree in journalism, mass communication or a relevant discipline (natural/physical/social sciences).
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in communications and knowledge management for multi‑disciplinary research programmes.
• Proven experience in international development programmes, with a focus on Western Africa.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English and French.
• Ability to incorporate gender and inclusion considerations into communication materials.

Required skills

• Excellent written and oral English and French.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Premiere).
• Script writing and video production for social‑media and promotional purposes.
• Graphic‑design skills for creating visual communication assets.
