Rehabilitation Officer – Mining

About the role

The Rehabilitation Officer will coordinate equipment contractors and lead the implementation of mine closure and progressive rehabilitation programmes at AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem operations. This role ensures compliance with Ghanaian environmental regulations while promoting sustainable land use, including agro‑forestry initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor mine rehabilitation and closure plans in line with regulatory requirements.
• Introduce and manage agro‑forestry components within the rehabilitation programme.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with rehabilitation and closure activities.
• Set rehabilitation objectives, targets and develop management programmes to achieve them.
• Conduct internal audits and short‑term planning to track conformance to the rehabilitation plan.
• Update Standard Operating Procedures for AGA Management Standard on rehabilitation.
• Periodically review the rehabilitation programme for suitability and continuous improvement.
• Perform heavy‑metal analysis of soil and plant tissues at reclaimed sites.
• Maintain and care for rehabilitated sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in rehabilitation within mining, extractive or construction sectors.
• Certificate of Competency as a Health, Safety and Environment Officer from the Minerals Commission.
• Valid driver’s licence and medical fitness for field work.

Required skills

• GIS database management.
• Proficiency in MS Office and data management.

• Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.
