Senior Health & Safety Associate

About the role

Genser Energy Ghana Limited (GEGL) is hiring a Senior Health & Safety Associate for its corporate office in Takoradi, Ghana. Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager at functional head level, the role develops, implements and embeds the company's health and safety management plans and training programmes, ensuring a safe workplace and compliance with legislation, international standards and company requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and update health and safety management plans, policies, procedures and standards aligned with ISO 45001, Ghanaian legislation and corporate standards
• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, and develop emergency preparedness, response and business continuity plans, including testing them through drills
• Run the annual training needs analysis and deliver induction, awareness and refresher training for employees, contractors and visitors
• Train and certify emergency response teams such as fire wardens and first aiders
• Embed health and safety requirements into daily operations and projects with department heads, and close out audit findings
• Support internal and external audits, inspections and certification, and incident reporting, investigation and corrective actions

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Occupational Hygiene or a related field (mandatory)
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in power, energy, mining or oil and gas
• Professional health and safety certification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) mandatory; ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification a plus
• Master's degree or NEBOSH International Diploma in a related field a plus

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Health and safety management software such as SAP EHS, Intelex or similar incident management systems
• Knowledge of ISO 45001, risk assessment methods and Ghanaian health and safety legislation
