Shaft Maintenance Technician

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. The company is looking for an experienced, self‑motivated Shaft Maintenance Technician to carry out statutory inspections, transport and sling materials, and ensure compliance with LI2182 while maximising plant availability.

Key responsibilities

• Execute statutory inspections of shafts and all related jobs in strict compliance with LI2182.
• Transport and sling materials safely within the underground environment.
• Perform daily pre‑start and shift handover checks and complete required check sheets.
• Report any anomalies, generate work requests in SAP and support maintenance planning.
• Monitor equipment performance, log data in the asset health system and take corrective actions.
• Identify continuous‑improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives and communicate them to the supervisor.

Required profile

• Completed mechanical apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds) and a Certificate of Competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines (LI2182).
• Minimum three years’ experience as a mechanical tradesperson in underground mining.
• Fully literate and numerate with strong mechanical maintenance competencies.
• Ability to communicate technical issues clearly, both orally and in writing.
