Software Engineer – Blockchain & Mobile Applications

About the role

CTED, a research centre affiliated with New York University, is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on developing blockchain‑based solutions and mobile applications that address economic challenges in under‑developed regions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement software architectures for web, iOS, and Android platforms.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain distributed communication systems using REST APIs and gRPC.
• Build and test Solidity smart contracts on Ethereum‑compatible environments.
• Collaborate with the Center Director on Ghana‑based research projects involving mobile and blockchain technologies.
• Ensure code quality through CI/CD pipelines and containerisation with Docker.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer.
• Proven ability to work independently in a multicultural research setting.
• Willingness to travel to and work from CTED’s research centre in Kumawu, Ghana, as needed.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Go, JavaScript, Solidity, Node.js.
• Blockchain systems and Ethereum smart‑contract development.
• Cloud services: AWS (Elastic Beanstalk, Fargate, EC2, S3, Route 53).
• Containerisation with Docker and CI/CD using AWS CodePipeline.
• API development with REST and gRPC.
• Relational databases: PostgreSQL.
• Mobile development with Flutter.
• Familiarity with Matlab, Python, and Stata (preferred).
