Staff Research Engineer - AI & Machine Learning

About the role

Gramian Consulting Group seeks a Staff Research Engineer to drive research and practical innovation in frontier AI systems. You will explore high‑impact questions, design rigorous experiments, and build research‑grade prototypes while collaborating across research, engineering, product, and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate capabilities, limitations, and training methods of cutting‑edge AI systems and formulate research questions that guide product strategy.
• Develop datasets, experiments, prototypes, tooling, and evaluation frameworks for synthetic/agentic data generation, reinforcement learning, post‑training, model understanding, benchmarks, and AI evaluation.
• Analyze results, ensure data quality, reproducibility, and translate findings into scalable applications and improvements to AI products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, communicate technical findings, and contribute to reports, publications, open‑source projects, or conferences.
• Mentor engineers and researchers, and participate in technical discussions and peer review.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Master’s in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• 7+ years of professional experience with significant research engineering work on machine learning or frontier AI systems.
• Strong scientific judgment regarding experimental rigor, data quality, reproducibility, and evidence‑based decision making.
• Excellent technical communication skills and ability to work independently across teams.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and research tooling.
