Underground Shiftboss

About the role

The Underground Shiftboss will lead quality assurance, control and regulatory compliance for underground ore extraction at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to senior production management, the incumbent ensures safe, efficient and legally compliant mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain production processes for the mine’s redevelopment phase.
• Interpret and apply relevant mining legislation, including the Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 and explosives regulations.
• Manage the underground ore extraction risk profile to meet internal and statutory standards.
• Assist in budgeting for the production cost centre and deliver results within approved financial targets.
• Demonstrate safety leadership, promote a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide resources and expertise to develop the production team and achieve annual budget goals.
• Report on production initiatives, enhancements and performance outcomes.

Required profile

• BSc or Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of underground mining experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of underground development and production methods.
• Valid Underground Shiftboss Certificate of Competency (or equivalent) as required by the Minerals Commission.
