Winder Driver Trainer – Underground Mining

About the role

The Winder Driver Trainer will lead the training, monitoring and quality control of cage operators and winder drivers at the Obuasi underground mine. This role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards and engineering policies while maximizing plant availability.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver training programmes for winder drivers in line with the approved training plan.
• Monitor statutory inspections of winders, material transport and slinging activities to ensure compliance with LI2182 and Ghanaian regulations.
• Develop and maintain reporting structures for operational readiness and maintenance requirements.
• Design risk mitigation plans for all winder‑related training activities.
• Adapt training content to align with the mine’s maintenance system plans.
• Task and supervise sub‑ordinates to meet production targets.
• Assist in budgeting for the training function and identify cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a winder driver in underground mining.
• Proven experience training winder drivers from initial certification to compliance.
• Project management experience in a mining environment.
• Legal requirement: MINCOM certification as a winder driver.

Required skills

• Training and certification of winder drivers.
• Knowledge of Man and Rock winders.
• Understanding of AC and DC winder practices.
• Implementation of proactive maintenance strategies.
• Familiarity with LI2182 statutory inspection procedures.
