Winder Rope Specialist

About the role

The Winder Rope Specialist is responsible for monitoring and controlling the quality of winder operations, ensuring safety, compliance and optimal plant availability at the Obuasi underground mine.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safety management inputs and ensure compliance with AGA’s Integrated Management System and Ghanaian regulations.
• Supervise and train Winder Rigger/Ropesmen personnel, overseeing certification and operational readiness.
• Monitor maintenance activities on winding equipment, identify non‑standard practices and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate departmental budgeting, cost evaluation and schedule adherence for winder refurbishment projects.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience as a rope specialist in underground mining.
• Internationally recognised Rigger and Ropesman trade certificates and a Superintendent Certificate of Competency from the Ghana Mineral Commission.
• Proven project‑management experience, preferably with SAP PM.

Required skills

• Rigger and Ropesman certification (including shaft examination, repair and slinging).
• Mobile crane rigging certification.
• Strong knowledge of winder operations and underground mining equipment.
• Project management and analytical problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) module.
