Deputy Director – IT Infrastructure

About the role

The University of Ghana seeks a Deputy Director to lead its Infrastructure Services Division. This senior position will shape the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the university’s IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable services for over 70,000 students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for planning, designing, implementing, and operating the university’s ICT infrastructure.
• Oversee the Network Administration, Systems Administration, and Telecoms & Electricals units.
• Manage and maintain LAN, WAN, wired and wireless networks, Wi‑Fi services, fiber‑optic backbone, and routing/switching platforms.
• Ensure availability, performance, and reliability of enterprise services such as network connectivity, identity & access management, application hosting, backup & storage, virtualization, database & data‑warehouse support, and data‑centre operations.
• Lead modernization initiatives to improve resilience, scalability, cybersecurity readiness, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with internal IT teams and align infrastructure services with enterprise applications, cybersecurity, user support, and digital transformation projects.
• Engage and manage external vendors, consultants, and telecom partners.

Required profile

• Suitable academic qualifications and extensive experience in managing large‑scale IT infrastructure.
• Proven leadership ability in overseeing multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong understanding of university or similarly complex organizational environments.
