Director of Legal Affairs

About the role

The University of Ghana is seeking a senior legal professional to lead its Legal Affairs Directorate. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, the Director will provide strategic legal counsel across all university matters and ensure compliance with statutory and policy requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on all university matters and draft, review, or interpret agreements and policies.
• Represent the university in dispute resolution proceedings, including out‑of‑court settlements.
• Supervise external legal services to maintain high standards.
• Support disciplinary boards, the Appeals Board, and the Anti‑Corruption Committee with legal expertise.
• Participate in planning and policy‑making committees and review initiatives for legal compliance.
• Perform any additional functions assigned by the Council or Vice‑Chancellor.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a postgraduate law degree.
• Enrollment with the Ghana Bar Association.
• Minimum 15 years post‑qualification experience, including at least 6 years in a managerial role.
• Extensive litigation experience and proven leadership/administrative abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate teams, initiate policies, and mentor staff.
