Purchasing Officer

About the role

GBfoods is seeking a Purchasing Officer to manage the procurement of indirect materials and services that support its production operations across Europe and Africa. The role ensures timely, cost‑effective sourcing while maintaining quality, compliance, and supplier performance.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and onboard suppliers for MRO items, office supplies and maintenance services.
• Conduct market research and benchmarking to secure competitive pricing and service levels.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing and terms to achieve cost savings.
• Raise and process purchase orders in line with company policies and budgets.
• Monitor open orders, follow up with suppliers and resolve delivery issues.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, HR and admin teams to understand procurement needs.
• Maintain strong relationships with approved vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Track supplier performance on quality, delivery and responsiveness, escalating issues as needed.
• Collaborate with stores/warehouse teams to monitor stock levels and trigger replenishment.
• Ensure procured items meet specifications and quality standards, handling returns or replacements when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, invoices and supplier documentation.
• Use ERP/procurement systems for transaction processing and reporting.
• Prepare periodic reports on spend, cost savings and procurement performance.
• Take responsibility for safety and wellbeing of self and others, including fitness for work.
