About the role
The Ghana National Association of Teachers seeks a dynamic Head of Public Affairs to lead strategic communication and media activities. This senior position will shape the Association’s public policy influence and manage stakeholder relationships across national and regional levels.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communication plan.
- Coordinate all media activities and train regional, district and local officers on effective media handling.
- Monitor the media landscape daily, address issues, and brief senior management on media matters.
- Serve as editor‑in‑chief for in‑house magazines, journals, press releases, case studies, speeches and annual reports.
- Supervise the creation of publicity documents, audiovisual materials and ensure the Association’s website remains current.
- Oversee and appraise the performance of direct reports.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the General Secretary.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in communications, public policy, public relations, international relations or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in public affairs, public relations, government or media relations.
- Age between 40 and 55 years.
- Proven record of influencing public policy and managing complex stakeholder environments.
- Strong leadership, negotiation and interpersonal abilities.
- Professional certification with the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (associate member or higher) is an advantage.
- Teaching professionals who are GNAT members in good standing are also preferred.
