Director of Finance

About the role

The University College is seeking a senior finance professional to lead its financial operations. Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Finance will provide strategic financial advice, ensure regulatory compliance, and safeguard the institution’s fiscal health.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance directorate and regularly advise the President on financial matters.
• Prepare statements, accounts and estimates for the Academic Board and Council.
• Collect monies due to the university and authorise payments on its behalf.
• Develop the annual budget and present it through the Academic Board to the Council for approval.
• Maintain books of accounts and records in accordance with Council and Auditor‑General requirements.
• Report any failure to maintain required financial records to the Finance Committee.
• Prepare consolidated accounts for all university units.
• Facilitate internal and external auditors in the performance of their duties.
• Advise on, and source, funding for the university.
• Ensure compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
• Undertake any additional assignments designated by the Council or President.

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Membership of a recognised professional accounting body (e.g., ICA Ghana, ACCA, CIMA).
• Minimum ten (10) years of post‑qualification professional experience.
• Either at least four (4) years in a senior finance role within a university or analogous institution, or fifteen (15) years of experience in reputable firms, industry, commerce or public service.
• Demonstrated integrity, competence, leadership, communication and ICT capabilities.
