Heavy Duty Mechanic Team Leader

About the role

The Heavy Duty Mechanic Team Leader will direct the daily operations of a vehicle maintenance workshop, ensuring that heavy‑duty trucks, commercial and light‑duty vehicles are inspected, serviced and repaired to the highest safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of mechanics, assigning tasks and coordinating manpower.
• Oversee inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of heavy‑duty trucks, commercial and light‑duty vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in diesel/petrol engines, transmissions, clutches, braking, suspension, steering, drivetrains and hydraulic systems.
• Develop and implement preventive‑maintenance schedules to minimise breakdowns and downtime.
• Conduct regular inspections, verify completed repairs and ensure vehicles are safe for operation.
• Enforce HSE requirements, safety procedures and proper workshop practices.
• Manage workshop tools, equipment, spare parts and coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts usage and maintenance history.
• Monitor vehicle downtime and maintenance costs, recommending improvements.
• Provide technical guidance and on‑the‑job training to mechanics and technicians.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Technology, Mechatronics or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 5 years hands‑on vehicle maintenance experience, with strong focus on heavy‑duty trucks.
• At least 2 years in a supervisory or team‑leader role.
• Proven experience maintaining fleet vehicles and knowledge of preventive maintenance.
• Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency breakdowns.
