Akan Speech Data Collection Contributor

About the role

RWS is recruiting Akan speakers to join a speech data collection project that helps evaluate and develop the next generation of AI technologies. The project collects spontaneous speech from real-life situations to test the speech recognition and conversational AI capabilities of AI models. It is a freelance, remote project with flexible, task-based work of about 2-4 hours per day, starting immediately.

Key responsibilities

• Record or collect natural, spontaneous speech following the project guidelines.
• Capture speech from approved real-life situations, such as workplace conversations or casual one-on-one discussions.
• Complete individual or two-person conversational speech tasks, or take part in voice or voice-text interactions with an AI or machine-based system.
• Annotate the collected speech data according to the provided instructions.
• Provide the required information and metadata for each recording.

Required profile

• Native-level fluency in Akan, with authentic pronunciation and strong familiarity with the language through everyday use.
• Advanced level of English to understand written instructions.
• No imitation of dialects or accents that are not your own.
• Experience with speech recording or data annotation is an advantage but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed project and recording instructions.

Technical requirements

• A quiet room or recording space with minimal background noise.
• A computer microphone or headset with a microphone.
• Reliable internet connection.
• Ability to access and use an online recording platform.
