Communications Officer – Tamale

About the role

The Communications Officer will be based in the IBIS Programme Office in Tamale, Ghana, reporting to the Country Director. The role supports IBIS’s mission to promote education, participation and human rights by developing and implementing communications strategies that raise the profile of the organisation and its partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, update and oversee a communications strategy in collaboration with Programme Directors and the Country Director.
• Maintain relationships with mass media and relevant organisations, providing information on IBIS activities to increase engagement.
• Draft and edit press releases, articles, human‑interest stories and other advocacy materials for web and traditional media.
• Coordinate the production and regular publication of the IBIS Ghana newsletter.
• Support national advocacy and fundraising events by planning IBIS participation and publicising work.
• Provide progress reports, strategic analysis and recommendations on communications activities to senior management.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience (approximately 4 years) in communications, media relations or advocacy.
• Strong written English skills with ability to produce clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
• Experience working with NGOs or development programmes is preferred.
• Ability to travel extensively across Ghana.
