Director of Geology & Exploration

About the role

The Director: Geology and Exploration will lead all geological and exploration activities at Iduapriem Mine, ensuring sustainable resource growth and alignment with AngloGold Ashanti’s corporate objectives. Reporting to senior executive leadership, the role combines strategic vision with hands‑on technical oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a forward‑looking exploration strategy that supports long‑term resource growth and reserve replacement.
• Identify, evaluate and lead new exploration opportunities, including acquisitions, joint ventures, greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Authorize and supervise drilling programmes, manage budgets and ensure rigorous resource modelling.
• Maintain compliance with international reporting codes such as JORC and NI 43‑101.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of geologists, providing mentorship, succession planning and performance management.
• Oversee mineral resource estimation, classification and annual reporting in line with corporate standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (MSc) or Honours Bachelor’s (BSc Hons) in Geology, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive mining geology experience, with at least 8 years in senior leadership roles.
• Eligibility for Minerals Commission Competency Certificate for Geology Manager and a valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in 3D geological modelling and resource estimation software.
• Experience acting as a Mineral Resource Qualified Person (QP) for gold deposits.
• Strong knowledge of JORC and NI 43‑101 reporting standards.
• Solid financial literacy for budgeting, costing and economic evaluation of exploration projects.
