Engineering Supervisor – Shaft Maintenance

About the role
The Engineering Supervisor – Shaft Maintenance coordinates, trains, monitors and controls the quality of cage operators and shaft maintenance technicians. The role ensures compliance with LI2182, safety standards and engineering policies to maximise plant availability and minimise operational risk.
Key responsibilities
- Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance for breaches and demonstrate safety behaviour.
- Lead by example to create a safe working environment, assessing and managing risks.
- Monitor and collect data to demonstrate execution of shaft maintenance, statutory inspections, material transport and other shaft‑related jobs in compliance with LI2182 and government approvals.
- Review, approve and sign off shaft maintenance items in the Refurbishment Execution Plan, including design, testing, commissioning, handover and training documentation.
- Deliver shaft maintenance items consistent with legal compliance required for refurbishment and operational start‑up.
- Comply with reporting processes to meet cost, schedule and quality expectations.
- Ensure shaft maintenance work meets standards, supports equipment requirements and is cost‑optimal.
- Identify sub‑standard practices, determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain the shaft maintenance portion of the Shaft Engineering Management Plan.
Required profile
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering (or equivalent HND/MET).
- At least 5 years of experience as a Shaft Maintenance Supervisor.
- Knowledge of LI2182 provisions related to shaft work and maintenance.
- Inspecting Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
- Understanding of the Shaft Log Book and its importance.
Required skills
- Strong winder and shaft operations competencies in underground mining.
- Excellent knowledge of LI2182 compliance requirements.
- Project management skills.
- Analytical problem‑solving abilities.
- Detail‑oriented with commercial and legal awareness.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel.
- Effective oral and written communication of technical issues.
