HSE Officer (Health, Safety & Environment)

About the role

Prestige HR is recruiting a full-time HSE Officer based in Accra. The role covers health, safety and environmental compliance across production areas, warehouses and operational facilities, with support for contractors and emergency preparedness.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily HSE inspections across production areas, warehouses and operational facilities and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Ensure employees, contractors and visitors follow HSE policies, including proper use of PPE.
• Inspect and maintain fire-protection systems, emergency equipment and first-aid facilities, and document inspections.
• Identify hazards, carry out risk assessments, update risk registers and implement control measures.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
• Plan and deliver HSE training, safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
• Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management, ventilation, lighting and noise levels.
• Prepare HSE reports, inspection records and incident documentation, and supervise contractor activities through work permits and safe work practice checks.
• Support emergency preparedness through emergency response and evacuation plans and drills.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Agriculture, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in HSE, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Certifications: ISO 45001 (lead/internal auditor or equivalent), First Aid and Fire-Fighting.
• Strong integrity, clear communication, analytical thinking and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and OSHA standards.
• Understanding of Ghana Occupational Safety and Health regulations and Ghanaian environmental and labour legislation.
• Risk assessment, incident investigation and RCA.
• Emergency response, first aid and fire prevention.
