Head of Public Affairs

About the role

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is seeking a dynamic Head of Public Affairs to lead its strategic communication and media engagement efforts. This senior position reports to the General Secretary and plays a pivotal role in shaping the association’s public image and policy influence.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communication plan.
• Coordinate all media activities across the association, ensuring consistent messaging.
• Train regional, district and local officers on effective media handling.
• Monitor daily media landscape and manage issues affecting the association, crafting appropriate responses.
• Serve as editor‑in‑chief for all in‑house publicity documents and audiovisual materials.
• Maintain and regularly update the association’s website.
• Supervise, appraise and develop direct reports.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the General Secretary.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Public Relations, International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in public affairs, public relations, government or media relations.
• Age between 40 and 55 years.
• Proven track record influencing public policy and managing complex stakeholder environments.
• Professional certification with the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (Associate Member or higher) is an advantage.
• Membership in GNAT and a teaching background are desirable.
