Mortuary Technician

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Mortuary Technician to join the newly opening Bank Hospital in Accra. The role involves receiving and releasing bodies, assisting with post‑mortem examinations, and providing compassionate support to relatives of the deceased.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mortuary cleanliness, safety, and equipment efficiency.
• Receive, store, and release bodies in appropriate conditions.
• Prepare bodies for post‑mortem examinations and restore them after autopsy.
• Handle organ removal for research, transplants, or donations as directed.
• Liaise with medical staff, funeral parlour representatives, and portering staff.
• Label and manage specimens for histology, photography, or teaching purposes.
• Provide sympathetic assistance and escort to relatives, adhering to customer service protocols.
• Conduct specialised techniques such as removal of temporal bones, brain, and spinal cord.
• Maintain consumables stock, document control, and health‑and‑safety compliance.
• Assist in incident investigations, training of junior staff, and induction of new nursing personnel.

Required profile

• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent; membership of a professional body.
• Minimum 2 years experience working in a mortuary, preferably in a private hospital.
• Proficient written and verbal communication in English.
• Computer literacy.
• Physical ability to handle bodies, operate post‑mortem tables, and work with refrigerated storage.
• Accurate, neat, and efficient work habits with a flexible approach to working hours.
