National Site Engineer

About the role

The National Site Engineer will provide technical supervision and quality assurance for the implementation of solar‑powered irrigation and water infrastructure systems under the FAO Food Security Response project in northern Ghana. Reporting to the FAO Country Representative and Project Manager, the incumbent will ensure that all construction and installation activities meet approved specifications, safety standards, and environmental safeguards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise site works, verify layouts, lines and levels against construction drawings.
• Oversee borehole drilling, aquifer testing and installation of solar‑powered pumping systems.
• Manage construction of water storage, distribution networks and civil works related to irrigation.
• Ensure compliance with technical specifications, codes of practice and quality standards, including material testing such as concrete tests.
• Monitor project timelines, health‑and‑safety requirements and environmental safeguards.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (civil, water resources or related field) with proven experience in irrigation or water infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise field teams and coordinate with multi‑stakeholder project teams.
• Familiarity with solar‑powered irrigation technologies and climate‑adapted agricultural practices.
