Operations Engineer - Power Plant

About the role

Genser Energy is hiring an Operations Engineer for its power plant, reporting directly to the Shift Charge Engineer. The role supports the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant so that power can be distributed continuously to customers. It covers the Steam Turbine Generator (STG) and its auxiliaries, the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and the plant's water treatment systems. The position is permanent and full-time, entry level, across several locations in the Western Region of Ghana.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the STG and its auxiliary systems, and track steam pressure, temperature, turbine speed, vibration, lubrication and condenser performance.
• Support safe unit start-ups, shutdowns, loading and normal operation with the Shift Charge Engineer, and optimise HRSG and steam cycle performance.
• Respond to alarms, troubleshoot first level, diagnose turbine, generator, condenser, feedwater and auxiliary issues, and conduct plant walk-downs.
• Collect and analyse operational data to track performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Monitor and operate water treatment systems (RO/demineralisation, filtration, chemical dosing), test water quality (pH, conductivity, hardness, silica, DO) and adjust chemistry to protect equipment.
• Follow operating procedures, safety regulations and environmental compliance, and take part in PSM, JSA and MOC reviews.
• Maintain shift logs, operational records and incident reports.

Required profile

• BSc in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience operating power or heavy process engineering plants.
• Knowledge of STG, HRSG, condensers, feedwater and cooling water systems, and familiarity with DCS and plant monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as Process Safety Management, OSHA, EPA and EEOC guidelines.
