Program Manager, Health Workforce

About the role

A multi-country health workforce initiative is being set up to strengthen the availability, quality, distribution and retention of primary health care and maternal, newborn and child health workers across Africa. A secretariat is being established at CHAI Ghana to support governments and partners with technical, programmatic and financial management. The Program Manager provides day-to-day programmatic and administrative grant management for a portfolio of 3-4 countries, acting as the main point of contact for grantees from planning through close-out. A Senior Program Manager position is also available.

Key responsibilities

• Support country planning and due diligence: develop grant management tools and materials, coordinate with country partners, manage due diligence documents and reports, review draft concept notes and track donor feedback.
• Coordinate investment recommendations, including work plans, budgets, theory of change and results frameworks.
• Serve as the day-to-day contact for grantees, monitor work plan and budget execution, review narrative and financial reports, and flag technical issues to Directors.
• Support corrective action plans and close out grantees' contractual obligations, compile final reports and lessons learned.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in program or grant management, ideally in global health, international development or donor-funded programs.
• Expertise managing multiple concurrent workstreams and country relationships, including with government and partner stakeholders.

Required skills

• Familiarity with due diligence processes, grant documentation and budgeting and/or financial reporting.
• Strong organizational and tracking skills and problem-solving ability.
