Program Officer, Health Workforce

About the role

CHAI Ghana is setting up a secretariat to support a multi-country health workforce initiative aimed at strengthening the availability, quality, distribution and retention of primary health care and maternal, newborn and child health workers across Africa. The Program Officer provides day-to-day programmatic and administrative grant management for all grantees in an assigned portfolio of 3-4 countries, from planning through close-out, and acts as the main point of contact for grantees. A Senior Program Officer position is also available.

Key responsibilities

• Support grant management tools and materials, such as budget and financial reporting templates and the initiative administration manual
• Coordinate with country-level partners on planning, due diligence and investment recommendations, including work plans, budgets and theories of change
• Review draft concept notes, track donor feedback and coordinate revisions
• Serve as the day-to-day contact for grantees, monitor work plan and budget execution, and review narrative and financial reports
• Maintain portfolio-level tracking dashboards and flag technical issues to Directors
• Confirm contractual obligations at close-out, compile final reports and lessons learned

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in program or grant management, ideally in global health, international development or donor-funded programs
• Experience managing multiple concurrent workstreams and country relationships, including with government and partner stakeholders
• Ability to act as the primary point of contact for grantees

Required skills

• Familiarity with due diligence processes, grant documentation and budgeting and/or financial reporting
• Strong organizational and tracking skills
