Urban Planning Associate

About the role

The Urban Planning Associate will support the Urban Planning and Resilience Specialist in designing, implementing, and monitoring urban planning projects across Ghana. This position offers exposure to sustainable urban development challenges and the chance to work within a dedicated UN‑Habitat team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative assistance for spatial plans, diagnostic reports, and stakeholder engagement materials.
• Collect, analyse, and draft reports on data related to the Smart SDG Cities Programme and other UN‑Habitat projects.
• Coordinate stakeholder consultations, capacity‑building activities, and on‑the‑job training for city officials.
• Support the planning and design of missions to the ten participating cities under the Smart SDG Cities Programme.
• Participate in Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR) workshops, reviewing draft VLR reports.
• Identify priority SDG impact projects and draft funding proposals aligned with UN‑Habitat mandates.
• Prepare briefing papers and discussion points on urban planning and resilience for senior management.

Required profile

• Ability to provide timely feedback to supervisors and senior management on urban planning and resilience needs.
• Experience supporting data collection, analysis, and report writing for urban development programmes.
• Capacity to engage with government officials at city level and strengthen their implementation capabilities.
