About the role

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital seeks qualified anesthesiology officers to deliver safe and effective anesthesia services across surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The position involves comprehensive peri‑operative care, teaching of trainees and participation in clinical research.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑anaesthetic assessments, counsel patients on options and risks, and develop individualized anaesthetic plans.
• Administer and monitor general anaesthesia, manage airway, fluid therapy and emergency responses during surgery.
• Supervise anaesthesia technicians, nurses and trainees, overseeing procedures such as intubation, central line placement and regional blocks.
• Lead post‑anaesthesia care unit (PACU) management, address complications and ensure smooth handover to surgical teams.
• Provide intensive care, emergency resuscitation and acute/chronic pain management.
• Mentor residents, fellows and medical students through bedside teaching, simulation training and academic meetings.
• Participate in research, clinical audits, morbidity‑mortality conferences and development of evidence‑based protocols.

Required profile

• Qualified medical officer in anaesthesiology employed by Korle Bu Teaching Hospital or sister agencies of the Ministry of Health.
• Experience in general anaesthesia and peri‑operative patient management.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise trainees.
• Commitment to clinical research and continuous quality improvement.
