Medical Officer (Full-time and Part-time)

About the role

Ashesi University's Natembea Health Centre provides health maintenance, disease prevention, health education and counseling to the university community. It is recruiting two Medical Officers (one full-time, one part-time) to deliver patient-centred, evidence-based care to students, faculty, staff and other authorised clients. The role covers clinical services, emergency response, disease surveillance, referrals and collaboration with internal and external providers, and reports to the Director of Health Services.

Key responsibilities

• Clinical care: examine, assess and treat patients, prescribe according to national guidelines, perform minor procedures, review lab and imaging results, and provide emergency stabilization and on-call cover.
• Public health: run health education on communicable, non-communicable and sexual and reproductive health, support outbreak preparedness, screen students and run pre-employment exams.
• Referrals and reproductive health: refer patients needing specialist care, liaise with referral facilities, offer sexual and reproductive health counselling, identify students needing psychological support and help with disability accommodation assessments.
• Quality improvement: take part in clinical audits, infection prevention and control, patient safety reporting and accreditation activities.
• Emergency services: manage medical and traumatic emergencies, give CPR and advanced life support, coordinate emergency transfers, take part in emergency drills and train staff and students in first aid and BLS.

Required profile

• Doctor of Medicine (MBChB or equivalent).
• At least 3 years of experience after housemanship.
• Registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
• Added advantage: certification in BLS; ACLS is an added advantage; experience in a university, primary care or community health setting.

Required skills

• BLS certification (ACLS is an added advantage)
• Basic life support and emergency response
