Clinical Oncology Specialist

About the role

The Clinical Oncology Specialist will deliver comprehensive, evidence‑based cancer care within a university‑affiliated health system in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana. This full‑time, on‑site position involves direct patient management, multidisciplinary collaboration, and participation in research and teaching activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, stage, and diagnose oncology cases.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies.
• Coordinate care with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
• Monitor treatment response, manage side effects, and adjust therapies as needed.
• Provide education to patients and families about disease, treatment options, and supportive care.
• Participate in tumor board meetings and contribute to clinical protocols and guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with ethical, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Engage in clinical research, data collection, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Train and mentor students or junior staff.

Required profile

• Strong clinical expertise in oncology, including assessment, staging, treatment planning, and follow‑up.
• Medical or pharmacy background with experience managing chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive medications.
• Recognized degree and valid professional registration in the country of practice.
• Ability to conduct clinical and applied research, analyze data, and contribute to publications.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Experience in low‑ or middle‑resource healthcare settings and familiarity with national and international oncology guidelines.
