Technical Manager (Mortuary)

About the role

The Technical Manager (Mortuary) will lead the day‑to‑day operations of the mortuary at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant handling of deceased patients while supporting the hospital’s teaching, training and research missions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily mortuary activities, including receipt, storage, and release of adult and pediatric deceased bodies.
• Manage staff scheduling, equipment, consumables and maintain robust operational systems.
• Liaise with medical staff, senior management and service users on operational matters.
• Provide technical and administrative advice to the Lead Consultant Pathologist and laboratory teams.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs, quality management, health and safety, data protection, confidentiality and hospital policies.
• Monitor departmental budget, control expenditures and achieve financial targets.
• Supervise autopsy clerks, maintain accurate legal and internal records, and respond to insurance or investigative inquiries.
• Maintain equipment logs, oversee maintenance schedules and enforce safety standards.
• Prepare weekly staff rotas and manage leave to ensure continuous coverage.

Required profile

• Qualified officer currently serving at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital or a sister agency of the Ministry of Health.
• Demonstrated experience in mortuary or related health‑care operations management.
• Strong knowledge of mortuary regulations, record‑keeping requirements and health‑safety standards.
• Excellent organizational, leadership and communication abilities.
